Communications Team Net

The Oceanside CERT Communications Team (WF6OCS) Weekly Net is held every Sunday at 8pm. The purpose of this Directed net is to provide ongoing training and practice for Oceanside CERT Amateur Radio Operators, and an opportunity to test and improve our stations. The Simplex portion helps us ensure we can still operate effectively should a repeater not be available. Net control will welcome and call for visitors immediately following roll call of regular team members.

Repeater portion of the Net:
Primary Frequency: 144.505 (CTCSS (PL) + 107.2 – Oceanside CERT Repeater
Backup Frequency: 147.130 (CTCSS (PL) +107.2))**

Simplex portion of the Net:
Primary Simplex Frequency:  145.540
Backup Simplex Frequency: 146.580

 What is a “Net”?

A “Net” is an on-the-air meeting of amateur radio operators. Usually, the group’s discussion centers on a particular topic; for Oceanside CERT we are practicing radio skills and proper etiquette in preparation for an emergency event that would benefit from radio communication. The “Net” helps members become familiar with each other, builds operator skill, provides a forum for questions and helps new operators get over the apprehension of “getting on the air”.

A “directed net” means there are certain rules that must be followed. One operator, acting as Net Control, is responsible for moderating the conversation and keeping order on the air. There are protocols as well as FCC rules that must be followed.
